Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Jones’ career has been one of continued education, growth and commitment to improving the health of her community. Ms. Jones started her career as a Certified Laboratory Technician. Her deep caring for patients and desire to be more involved in clinical research and education were realized as a Clinical Research Coordinator for The Heart & Vascular Center. She was instrumental in enrolling patients and coordinating many groundbreaking clinical trials that defined current therapy for patients suffering heart attacks under the guidance of the Duke Clinical Research Institute and the TIMI Group of Harvard Medical School.
In addition to her full time clinical activities and raising her family, Liz continued her education, becoming a Registered Nurse and eventually a Nurse Practitioner (Old Dominion University) – able to evaluate and treat patients independently.
Liz endeavors to expand Specialty Medical Care to the underserved areas of Galax and Carroll & Grayson Counties. The effects of the Affordable Care Act on healthcare in rural communities has been devastating in terms of access, availability and affordability.
Liz’s passion and her partnering with Shannon Alderman, RN, convinced Dr. Puma and Sorin Medical to work together to bring Cardiovascular Care to the Galax Community. Liz has developed a full time Cardiology practice, coordinates a Remote Cardiac Rhythm Management program for patients with Pacemakers, Defibrillators & Implantable Monitors in order that patients can receive care in their community,
Liz often quotes Dr. Puma who likes to say “Galax may be a small town, but it does not mean it has to be small time!” Working diligently to grow and expand services to the community, Liz hopes to be able to provide invasive arterial & venous procedures and even an outpatient/mobile Cardiac Catheterization Lab in the near future.
